Tender marinated chicken in a rich, creamy tomato curry sauce—better than takeout and made right in your kitchen.
Chicken Tikka Masala is one of the most beloved curry dishes worldwide. Chunks of yogurt-marinated chicken are grilled until charred, then simmered in a rich, creamy tomato-based sauce infused with aromatic spices. Serve over basmati rice for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- For the Chicken Marinade:
- 2 lbs (900g) boneless chicken thighs, cut into chunks
- 1 cup (245g) plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons garam masala

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Add garlic and ginger, cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 5
Add all the spices and stir for 30 seconds until aromatic.
- 6
Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 7
Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- 8
Add the grilled chicken pieces to the sauce. Stir to coat and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- 9
Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve over basmati rice with warm naan bread.

- •Don't overcrowd the pan—cook in batches if needed for best results.
- •Let meat rest after cooking to keep it juicy and tender.
Storage & Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, use a microwave at 50% power or warm in a covered pan over medium-low heat until heated through. For best texture, avoid reheating more than once.
